Edmund Bascon (b. 2003) is a Clarinetist, Composer, and Educator from Castro Valley, California. An active performer, he was a winner of University of the Pacific's 2025-2026 Performance Competition and the winner of BD Winds' 2026 concerto competition. He regularly performs with university ensembles including the wind band, symphony orchestra, and a variety of chamber ensembles. Also a brass performer, Edmund can be heard with the Pacific Pep Band, Mariachi Ocelotlán, and the Pacific Brass Society. 

Outside of collegiate ensembles, he has taken professional gigs playing with artists like Yandel and Filo Ebid, as well as church services in his community. An enthusiast for the marching arts, he has been a member of the Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps, Immortal Winds, and the Blue Devils International Corps. 

As a composer, Edmund's works have been performed by ensembles including the ~Nois saxophone quartet, Brass Over Bridges, Dave Eschelman's Jazz Garden, Ensemble Dal Niente. Winner of University of the Pacific's 2026 Composition Competition, he had his work Night Lights premiered by the Pacific Wind Bands. His composition instructors include Andrew Conklin, Hendel Almetus, Eric Wood, and Connor Moen. He has participated in masterclasses with Gabriela Lena Frank, Shuying Li, Catherine Likhuta, and Giovanni Santos. Edmund has worked with David Biedenbender, Viet Cuong, and Stacy Garrop as a composition fellow with the Tidewater Composition Workshop. 

Edmund strives to create music that engages listeners and performers alike, telling meaningful stories and sometimes uprooting tender emotions. One focus of his is on writing for non-professional ensembles. He is interested in upholding his goal of heartfelt storytelling while remaining accessible to musicians of a wider skill level, and is excited to integrate this practice into his work as a music educator. 

As an educator Edmund has worked as a coach for the Stockton Youth Symphony, the Amador Valley HS and Castro Valley HS marching bands, the Immortal Winds marching ensemble, and the McClatchy High School band program

Edmund is pursing a BM in Music Education and Music Composition at University of the Pacific ('27)
